Tigerair is the new name for Tiger Airways
They often have some of the best deals on the market for flights within Australia. Virgin Australia is due to merge with Tiger Airways as it used to be known before buying 60% in the company as it was expected to leave Australia otherwise due to losses.
At least this should continue the competition between Jetstar & Tigerair

Interesting article in SMH about how Samoa Air will become the world’s first airline to charge people for their plane ticket based on their weight.
Apparently you weigh yourself at home when you book & put figure in then they charge based on this. Then they weigh you at check in!

When is the cheapest time to buy plane tickets?
There are Travel Expos arranged by Flight Centre often 3 times a year. They are usually in February, August & November. This is often one of the cheapest times to buy tickets to Europe- (London, Paris, Rome etc) USA (LA, New York etc), South America etc.
European EarlyBird tickets come out in October / November so this is usually the best time to buy tickets to Europe each year. The airlines try to fill their seats in advance so that they know what is happening for the rest of the year Obviously there can be special sales at any time of the year if the planes aren’t full enough but reliably the expos can have exclusive deals which can work out at up to $200 cheaper than even the special online EarlyBird fares at that time.
The Travel Expos are normally advertised in FlightCentre or in the newspapers & occasionally on the TV so keep an eye out for them. Sometimes FlightCentre staff won’t let you know if you’re about to buy flights at this time of the year & are about to book as happened to one of my friends! Luckily they hadn’t booked the tickets but as they had them on standby reserved the airline wasn’t that happy to reduce the fare!
